JANUARY 5-WEEK “MINI SESSIONS”

“TAP Show Choir”

Tuesday, January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and February 4th from 4:30-6:30pm at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

If you haven’t had the opportunity to be part of a show choir, you are missing out on one of the best performing arts!  Most actors would agree that being in a musical is extra special because of the high-energy, show-stopping singing and the dancing. We certainly think so!  A show choir allows an actor to focus on the singing and dancing by learning the music and choreography to some of best Broadway and Disney songs. By focusing solely on music and dance, actors develop their singing skills and sharpen their dance technique more than they are typically able to in a standard show rehearsal process. Actors who take part in show choirs become more confident singers, have stronger vocal technique and greater vocal agility, and gain a stage presence that benefits them in all areas of performance. The children will perform for their families at TAP Studios on the final day of the class.

“Improvisation and Comedy”

TWO SESSION OPTIONS of the same class...

Thursday Session: Thursday, January 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, and February 6th from 4:30-6:30pm at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

OR...

Saturday Session: Saturday, January 11th, 18th, 25th, and February 1st and 8th from 9:00-11:00am at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

While practicing improvisation is a great way for actors to hone their skills and strengthen technique, it is also a valuable performing art form in and of itself. Improvisation is at the heart of comedy, as it is the foundation of sketch and stand up.  In this session, children will learn everything from the basics of improvisation to long form and short form games, to how to perform improv shows with a troupe. The class will move quickly, but there is no prior experience necessary. It is sure to be a fun class full of laughs, lots of silliness, and new friendships formed as the children step outside their comfort zones to expand their performance abilities.

DECEMBER WORKSHOPS

“PreK Creative Drama” Saturday Workshop

Saturday, December 7th from 11-12pm at TAP Studios

*Open to PreK children (4 and 5 year olds)

A child is never too young to learn positive social interaction, how to understand and relate to situations from other perspectives, and to gain confidence in themselves. Acting teaches these strengths, and so many more, and often is most impactful with the youngest children.  Join us for a fun hour-long workshop where we will introduce the children to theatre games as they begin to develop acting and public speaking skills that will benefit them in all areas of their lives.

“Page to Stage Creative Writing” 2-Day Workshop

Saturday, December 7th and Saturday, December 14th from 1-4pm each day at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

Creativity is the key to good playwriting. Have you ever been interested in writing a script or a play? Do you love to create characters and scenes? In this 2-Day workshop, the children will create a short performance from beginning to end. They will learn the basics of playwriting including story structure, character development, and dialogue, as they work together to develop a performance piece from the creative writing stage through the performance at the end. Parents will be invited to watch the performance on December 14th from 3:30-4:00pm.

“Play to Create”
 Saturday Workshop

Saturday, December 14th from 10-12pm at TAP Studios

*Open to 2nd-5th Graders

One of the best ways for children to develop and strengthen their acting skills is through creative drama, which includes skill-focused theater games, exercises, and group activities. Often, children don’t even realize that they are learning because they are having so much fun! Join us for this workshop where we will have a blast playing theatre games to develop and strength our acting skills and technique.

“Costume and Makeup Design” 2-Day Workshop

Tuesday, December 3rd and Thursday, December 5th from 4:30-6:30pm each day at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

Have you ever wanted to learn how to do your own stage makeup for characters? Do you have fun playing around with costumes and have ideas of your own that you would love to bring to life? Join us for this 2-Day Workshop on theatre costume and makeup design! You will learn everything from costume de noo sign to costume renderings, to how to make those renderings a reality, as well as some practical (and fun!) stage makeup basics.

“Dance it Out” 2-Day Workshop

Tuesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 12th from 4:30-6:30pm each day at TAP Studios

*Open to 4th-8th Graders

If you love to dance to your favorite musical theater songs, then this 2-Day Workshop is for you! The workshop will be focused on learning musical theatre choreography to some of the most popular modern Broadway musical songs. No dance experience is needed!

“Ace your Audition”  Sunday Workshop

Sunday, December 15th at TAP Studios

*1:00-3:00pm for 2nd-5th Graders *3:30-5:30pm for 5th-8th Graders

Are you interested in learning basic skills, tips, and tricks to help you feel confident and comfortable in an audition? Auditioning can be one of the most intimidating parts of the acting, and yet is the most important. It is often difficult to know how to prepare for an audition, from which monologue and/or song to prepare to how to present yourself, introduce yourself, and even what to wear. Do you know what a cold reading is and how to slate in? Are you confident on how to take direction? Do you know how to choose a monologue or audition song that is perfect for you and consistent with the show that you are auditioning for? Join us as we answer all of these questions and more in this 2-Hour workshop.
