Fall 2019 Performance Session: Once on this Island, Jr.

Once on this Island, Jr. will be directed by TAP Instructor, Miss Katie Clarke, and Assistant Directed by TAP Instructor, Miss. Madyson Figlo.  Rehearsals will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30pm-6:30pm, and will run for about 13 weeks, August 20th-November 14th, with performances at Burning Coal Theater in downtown Raleigh November 15th-17th. Performances will take place Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th at 2pm, and Saturday at 7pm, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th at 2pm.  The first rehearsal on August 20th will be a team-building rehearsal for the cast to spend time getting to know each other through games and fun activities.  Children will audition during rehearsals on August 22nd and 27th, and will then spend the following weeks rehearsing for the production.

Rehearsals will include time spent learning acting skills through exercises and games that focus on teaching acting skills that the children will use not only in the show, but in future productions as well.

During the final two weeks of rehearsal, the children will be required to attend rehearsals each weekday, Monday-Thursday (off on Friday).  This includes the week of November 4th and the week of November 11th.  These weeks are our Tech Weeks, when the technical elements will be incorporated into the show.  Note that these rehearsals will take place from 4:30-7:30pm (one extra hour).  Attendance is MANDATORY for these two weeks of rehearsals for all children so that the technical elements can be incorporated into the production.  If your child is not available for the entirety of these Tech Week rehearsals, we ask that you do not register.   Performances will occur November 15th-17th.

Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals will take place at TAP Studios.  Tech Week rehearsals and the performances will take place at Burning Coal Theater's Murphey School Auditorium in downtown Raleigh.  Throughout the rehearsal process, children may miss no more than two rehearsals, with the exception of illness.  No rehearsals may be missed during the final two weeks when we rehearse Mondays-Thursdays from 4:30-7:30pm, beginning November 4th.  If your child will need to miss more than two rehearsals, please do not register for the session.

Specific information regarding auditions, what to bring and wear to rehearsals, performance tickets, etc. will be communicated to the cast via email once children have registered and enrolled in the session.  At auditions, children will learn music to sing, do several "cold readings" which means that they will be given scenes and monologues from the show to read "on the spot" (with time to prepare), and will do some movement auditions.  They do NOT need to prepare anything for auditions.  We do recommend, however, that they listen to music from the show on YouTube (be sure they listen to the Jr music) in order to familiarize themselves with the story!  All children enrolled in the session WILL be cast in the show.

Registration Fee

Because we anticipate Once on this Island Jr. filling very quickly, we ask that you pay the first month's payment of $150 (or the full payment of $450 if you would prefer) upon registration in order to hold your child's spot (see how to register below).  The rest of the $450 session fee ($300) is due July 31st. If you register and realize that your child will be unable to attend the session, please note that you will not receive the $150 registration fee back, as this is required upon registration to hold their spot.  The remaining payment of $300 is due by July 31st.  If you cancel after July 31st, you will be required to forfeit the full amount of $450.   If you do not pay the full amount of $450 by July 31st, your child will lose their spot in the session, as well as the $150 registration fee.  Please contact us with any questions regarding registration fees.
