July 14 - 25, 2025 for Ages 12-18 by audition only.
Over the course of the two-week, half-day camp, actors will rehearse for their fully-mounted production of FRANKENSTEIN, which will be performed at LEGGETT THEATER at Peace University in downtown Raleigh on the final day of camp. When not rehearsing, actors will work on acting skills through games and exercises, or help create the technical elements of the show. The camp will be a quick-paced, collaborative, and intensive performance camp for teens who are dedicated to developing their performance skills.
FRANKENSTEIN is based on the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. Victor Frankenstein is a medical student at Ingolstadt University on the verge of a scientific breakthrough: His goal is to reverse death. Ignoring warnings from those around him, Frankenstein puts together a human body with parts from different corpses and brings it to life. But rather than celebrate his success, Frankenstein abhors the “Monster” he created and curses its existence. When the Monster pleads for compassion, Frankenstein rejects him, and the Monster seeks revenge through a series of murders. This succinct retelling of Mary Shelley’s masterpiece calls into question the lines between hero and villain and asks: What are the costs of science without responsibility or empathy?

Games are collaborative, bold, and creative, and thus they form the base for how actors learn skills. Acting games are unique to the theatre, and each is centered around a skill that actors need to develop over time. While acting games are fun to play, they also take us out of our comfort zones, help build our confidence, and develop and hone our acting technique.
