About TAP

Performance opportunities and theatre education for children as young as 6 years of age, through 9th grade.

Performance Sessions: What is a "Performance Session"?

  • 13-week session held throughout the school year (3x a year), open to children in Grades 2-8, which culminates in performances of a musical or play
  • All children who enroll in a session will be cast in the show
  • Rehearsals take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:30pm
  • Rehearsals begin with an engaging 30-minute acting class, followed by a 90-minute rehearsal.
  • All acting classes and show rehearsals are taught and directed by experienced theatre educators.
  • Each session culminates in a weekend of performances at Burning Coal Theater.

What other theatre opportunities does TAP offer?

  • Saturday Workshops ranging in topic from improvisation to dance to acting to technical theatre, open to children in Grades 2-9, offered several Saturdays a month.  Each workshop is two-hours; children may attend as many as they would like and register on an individual-basis.
  • Semester "Series" Classes during the week for children in Grades 2-8.  Series Classes are geared toward children who want to devote more time to studying theatre.  Each Series includes 3 hours of class a week: Acting, Improvisation, Music and Movement.  Children begin in Series I and have the potential to move through Series I-IV at the recommendation of their teachers.
  • Semester "General" Classes during the week for children in Grades 1-9.  Each class lasts one-hour, and will cover all aspects of theatre and musical theatre. Class topics change each semester allowing children the opportunity to take different classes, gaining a broad knowledge of theatre and performance skills.

Upcoming Performance Session: Once on this Island Jr.

-The beautiful story of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid  is told with a Caribbean musical flare, and comes to life onstage through gods, goddesses, and the colors of a beautiful island to share the timeless message that love overcomes all else.  This fantastic musical has been performed by children all over the world and we are so excited to perform it to kick-off our second season of TAP!  We invite and welcome all children, those new to TAP and those who are already part of our TAP Family, to join us  for this exciting experience!!

*To register, email beginning at 10am on Saturday, June 1st!   Register early, as we expect to fill quickly!
